Oakley Icon Alliance Championship Weekend

The Oakley Icon Alliance (OIA), the premier youth women’s flag football platform, concluded its expanded season with a thrilling Championship Weekend (February 12–15) at Oakley Headquarters, culminating in Texas Fury claiming the championship title. Beyond the field action, OIA also revealed ambitious plans for international expansion in 2026–2027, signalling a significant leap for the burgeoning sport.

Following a successful inaugural tournament in 2025, OIA returned bigger than ever this season, broadening its reach with regional competitions and welcoming a wider geographic spread of teams. This regional growth laid the groundwork for the upcoming international phase, which will see the program include over 70 teams from the United States, Canada, Panama, and Mexico.

The Championship Weekend showcased the pinnacle of youth talent, featuring 16 elite teams who had navigated rigorous regional play. From a field of eight qualifiers, Texas Fury, Bad Rabbits, Apex Predators, and THT battled through to the semifinals.

The final showdown saw Texas Fury from Austin, TX, emerge victorious in a nail-biting 27-26 contest against the Bad Rabbits. Adding to the weekend's accolades, Jessica Manriquez of the Bad Rabbits was celebrated as the tournament's Most Valuable Player for her exceptional skill and consistent excellence.

Oakley’s Vision: Elevating Women’s Flag Football

Oakley’s commitment to fostering the sport extends beyond competition. The OIA platform is actively creating pathways for visibility and advancement for rising athletes. This year, participants benefited from enhanced experiences, including playing on professional-caliber fields at NFL practice facilities for teams like the NY Jets, LV Raiders, and LA Chargers.

Crucially, young athletes also had direct interactions with international flag football icons such as Phoebe Schecter, Nausicaa Dell’Orto, Olga Sotillo, Madison Fulford, and Vanita Krouch. These encounters not only inspired but also provided invaluable mentorship, reinforcing Oakley’s dedication to supporting long-term success.

Corey Hill, Vice President and Head of Oakley Global Sports Marketing, highlighted the platform's impact. “This OIA Championship Weekend was a powerful reflection of how far the sport has come and where it’s headed,” Hill stated. “The talent, competitiveness, and confidence these young women displayed on the field was incredible to witness. We’re proud to provide a platform that not only showcases their abilities, but actively invests in their future as the game continues to grow both nationally and globally.”

The Future of Flag Football: A Global Phenomenon in the Making

The announcement of OIA's international expansion marks a pivotal moment for women's flag football. This strategic move by Oakley underlines the sport's rapid growth and its potential to become a truly global phenomenon, aligning with broader trends of increased investment and visibility for women's sports worldwide.

Compared to a decade ago, corporate sponsorships like Oakley's are now far more focused on building sustainable ecosystems for athlete development, rather than just event branding. By integrating professional-grade venues and direct interaction with established icons, OIA is not just hosting games; it's cultivating careers and inspiring the next generation of female athletes on an unprecedented scale. This holistic approach sets a new benchmark for youth sports platforms and positions flag football as a frontrunner in the evolving landscape of global athletics.

Oakley continues to lead the charge in empowering young women athletes, driving forward one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, and soon, across continents.
