Rapper DaBaby has once again proven his chart dominance as his latest single, "Pop Dat Thang," ascends to the coveted No. 1 position on Billboard's Hot Rap Songs chart. This achievement marks his first time atop the list in nearly six years, a significant milestone since his 2020 hit "Rockstar."
The track, released via SouthCoast/Interscope Capitol, jumped from No. 2 to the summit on the chart dated May 16, dethroning Don Toliver's "E85" which had led for 11 consecutive weeks. "Pop Dat Thang" saw impressive gains across all three chart-contributing metrics: streams, radio airplay, and track sales, significantly bolstered by a high-profile remix featuring GloRilla, Yung Miami, and YKNIECE.
For its coronation week (May 1-7), Luminate reported that "Pop Dat Thang" garnered 8 million official streams, reached 20.1 million in radio airplay audience impressions, and registered a notable increase in track sales in the United States. These figures represent substantial week-over-week improvements of 24%, 7%, and 19% respectively, with the remix playing a crucial role in the streaming surge.
The Resurgence of a Rap Hitmaker
DaBaby's return to the No. 1 spot on Hot Rap Songs with "Pop Dat Thang" solidifies his standing as a consistent hitmaker in the rap landscape. This is his second leader on the chart, following the nine-week reign of "Rockstar," featuring Roddy Ricch, back in 2020. The success of "Pop Dat Thang" is further amplified by its performance on other key charts.
Beyond Hot Rap Songs, the single also crowned the Rap Airplay chart for the first time, marking DaBaby's fifth No. 1 on that radio ranking. His previous radio chart-toppers include "Suge" (2019), "BOP" (2020), "Rockstar" (2020), and his feature on Pop Smoke's "For the Night" (2021). This consistent radio presence underscores the track's broad appeal and DaBaby's enduring connection with listeners.
The single's impact extends across genres, climbing 6-5 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and making a significant leap from 43-26 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100. In the radio sphere, it advanced 7-3 on Rhythmic Airplay and held strong at No. 3 on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay for a third straight week, contributing to its rise from 30-29 on the all-genre Radio Songs chart.
"Pop Dat Thang" is featured on DaBaby's January release, Be More Grateful, an album that debuted at No. 6 on Top Rap Albums, marking his fifth top 10 project. The multi-chart success of this single not only reinvigorates the album's presence but also signals a powerful new chapter for the artist, leveraging strategic remixes and strong radio support to reclaim his position at the pinnacle of rap music.
