Metallica is set to extend its monumental M72 World Tour into 2027, announcing a new North American stadium run that will follow their highly anticipated residency at Las Vegas' Sphere. This extension marks the blockbuster trek's fifth year, solidifying its place as one of the most enduring tours in heavy metal history.
The newly unveiled 2027 leg will kick off on May 8 at BC Place in Vancouver and conclude on June 19 at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City. This itinerary will bring the iconic metal pioneers to a dozen North American cities they haven’t visited on the current M72 run, offering fans across the continent another chance to experience their unique in-the-round stage production.
Adding to the excitement, the band will be supported by powerhouse acts Limp Bizkit and Avatar on these new dates. Fan Club presales begin promptly on September 21 at 10 a.m. local time, with Citi cardmember and Verizon Shine presales starting September 22. General public tickets will become available on September 25 at 10 a.m. local time.
Before hitting stadiums again, Metallica will make their Las Vegas Sphere debut with the "Life Burns Faster" residency, launching October 1 and running through March 13, 2027. By the time the 2027 stadium shows commence, the M72 World Tour will have spanned four years, having launched in April 2023. To date, the tour has logged an impressive 99 shows across 26 countries, captivating nearly five million members of the "Metallica family."
The M72 tour’s distinctive production, highlighted by its massive in-the-round stage, has contributed significantly to its status as one of Metallica’s most ambitious live undertakings. Beyond the spectacle, the band continues its commitment to philanthropy, with a portion of proceeds from every ticket sold benefiting local charities through their All Within My Hands foundation.
The Unstoppable Force of Metallica's M72: A Legacy Reaffirmed
The decision to extend the M72 World Tour into its fifth year is a profound statement on Metallica's enduring relevance and unparalleled drawing power in the global music landscape. For a band that has been at the forefront of heavy metal for over four decades, maintaining such an expansive touring schedule, complete with a state-of-the-art production, is a testament to their unwavering dedication and the insatiable demand from their multi-generational fanbase.
This extension, coupled with their upcoming residency at the Las Vegas Sphere, showcases Metallica's unique ability to blend traditional stadium rock dominance with innovative live experiences. While many legacy acts might scale back their touring, Metallica consistently pushes boundaries, proving that their live performances remain a cornerstone of their artistic and commercial success. It's a strategy that not only keeps the band vibrant but also sets a high bar for longevity and fan engagement within the industry.
The philanthropic component of the M72 tour further enhances their legacy.
